Biography

Born in Umunkpeyi Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA, Abia State and obtained a B.Sc. degree in Zoology from the University of Jos (1984), an M.Sc. Zoology in Marine Ecology & Fisheries from the University of Lagos (1990) and a Ph.D. in Fish Breeding & Genetics from MOUAU (2003). He began his professional career as a Research Officer with Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research - NIOMR/ARAC (1990–1994) before joining MOUAU in 1994, where he progressed through academic and administrative ranks to full professorship.
Prof. Nlewadim has held multiple leadership roles at MOUAU, including Head of Department (Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Management), Coordinator of SIWES, Acting Dean and substantive Dean of the College of Natural Resources & Environmental Management (CNREM), as well as Chairman of the University Admissions Board (UAB). He also served as Coordinator for West Africa Agricultural Productivity Programme (WAAPP) activities at MOUAU and spent a sabbatical/visiting appointment with the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in 2015.
His teaching and research foci are on fish genetic resources and fisheries management, aquaculture production systems and post-harvest technology. Prof. Nlewadim has an established publication record in peer-reviewed local and international journals and has supervised numerous B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. He is listed on Google Scholar and ResearchGate with multiple citations and publications in fisheries and aquaculture topics.
While Dean of CNREM, he helped secure institutional cooperation with Kentucky State University (USA) to strengthen aquaculture programmes and boost fish production initiatives. His administrative work has emphasized curriculum development, industry linkages and capacity building for applied fisheries and aquaculture education.
Prof. Nlewadim has served in professional capacities including Secretary of the Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON) and various university committees connected to admissions, teaching and learning management. Prof. Anthony Nlewadim is a distinguished academic and administrator currently serving as the Director of Academic Planning (DAP) at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike and the Vice Chairman, Committee of Directors of Academic Planning of Nigerian Universities (CODAPNU). He is also presently the Chairman, Council of Fellows (CoF) of Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON) and Member, Governing Council of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State.
